The Japanese characters for “Taiko” literally translate to “big fat drums,” and it is a traditional form of music and art that has been an important part of Japanese culture for over 1000 years.
Taiko drumming combines powerful beats with dynamic whole-body movements and overflowing energy. UQ Taiko was formed with the concept of “Minna no taiko,” which in Japanese means “Taiko drumming for anyone and everyone!” For this reason, our team consists of people of all ages (our youngest is 10 years old!), nationalities (over 18 different countries), and backgrounds. Absolutely no background in Taiko, music, or Japanese culture is necessary—we’d welcome anyone who is interested in checking out what Taiko is all about.
Come join us to spread the ‘taiko love’ together!
