We're Jammin'

One of our most exciting additions to the festival this year is our Jam Stage, centered in a 'theatre in the round' style within the Chai Tent. Featuring participation-led, free for all jams where all are welcome to pick up a house instrument and join in the groove during the day and curated, intermediate level jams during the afternoon and night which will feature some of the lineup and crowd's more instrumentally virtuous artists matched together in dream combos.

Here's Exactly How it's Going Down

5:30pm - 8:00pm: Free For All

The Free for All jam is for anyone to get up and have a go, just let the Jam Host know you want to get up and jam and they'll give you the green light to take the stage when a spot comes available. The host makes sure no one takes more time than others and that players get to change around, and may even jump in to help conduct and create the funkiest grooves possible. If you've had a few too many to be on your feet, don't be surprised if you're asked to take a quick sit down before stepping into the lime light... While the jam is about the audience as much as it is what's happening on stage, remember that it's all about fun and mistakes are A-OK! At some points it will be magic, and others not so much, but that's quite alright. Relax and have some fun!

8:00pm - 9.30pm: House Band Session 1

The Jensens (Friday)
Jambala (Saturday)

9:30pm - 11.00pm: House Band Session 2

Golden Age of Ballooning (Friday)
Zong (Saturday)

Each night we will have two house band sessions where we have established bands start out the jams and then other players can swap around or add in to the jam. The amazing vocalist, Claire Davies, will be hosting these sessions. See Claire if you want to get up and jam as well and she'll orchestrate the jams by swapping players in and out. Sometimes while the jam is still going she'll give everyone a one minute turn around to get the house band on stage and everyone else off. These jams will be at a higher standard than the Free For All so if you want to join in you should be a competent musician with confidence that you'll add to the flavour. The house bands will be announced at a later date

11:00pm - 3:00am: CHURCH hosted by Ofa Fanaika

From 11pm, Ofa Fanaika (Captain Dreamboat/Chocolate Strings) will be presenting CHURCH. A jam series that features house bands made up of some of Brisbane and Australia's finest players from the jazz and neo-soul scenes. Each night will have a different theme with one night focussing on progressive rock and another night focussing on funk and soul. The focus for these jams is completely on the audience. If you want to be a part of these jams make sure you see Ofa during. Be aware though, she's going to want to know that you're going to get up there and nail it.

The following backline will be set up:

  • 2 x Guitar Amps (Vox AC30 and Fender Hotrod)
  • 1 x Bass Rig (Ampeg SVT3 pro and cab)
  • 1 x 5-piece drum kit including cymbals, snare, kick and stool.
